Joining #teampresto as an ITT trainee gives aspiring teachers the opportunity to work with one of the most innovative and successful teams of Teachers and Leaders in Greater Manchester.
The name ‘Prestolee’ is synonymous with educational innovation, with the legacy of famous Headteacher Teddy O’Neill continuing to this day through the work of Prestolee: an outstanding primary school, a National Teaching School and an established teacher training provider. Prestolee School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) aims to ensure you are supported to become the best teaching practitioner and future leader you can be. We work with a number of schools to ensure you can undertake your primary school placement at different locations across the region.
We have schools across the region and your placements are organised with your residence in mind. Training takes place at both Prestolee Primary School and our various partner schools. The PGCE is delivered by the University of Cumbria in our locality also – there is no need for you to attend the Lancaster Campus of the university.
On completion of our primary programme, you will receive Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) from the University of Cumbria with 60 Masters Credits. There is a QTS only option and we are more than happy to talk with you about the different routes – just get in touch.
Prestolee SCITT has 3 key aims:
DELIVERING QUALITY FIRST TEACHER TRAINING
IDENTIFYING AND DEVELOPING THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW
TRAINING THE BEST TEACHERS FOR THE LEARNERS IN OUR COMMUNITIES
We do this by designing and delivering a leading primary programme that pulls in expert input at every level, to ensure you are fully prepared to start your career in the best profession in the world. In addition to providing all the practical and theoretical training you need, we will support you to discover who you are as a teacher; provide you with the necessary support and challenge to ensure you are preparing to be the best version of this you can be; and provide job preparation and interview training ready for your NQT position.
Hand in hand with the core training is the teaching element of the programmes. You will be based at one of our partner schools for this part of the programme, with location dependant on where you live and preferred key stage, and you will complete a contrasting placement in an alternative school. All trainees are expertly supported by both a school-based mentor and a lead mentor and this part of the training is much more bespoke to each trainees’ development needs.
Our partner schools are located across the region, with each providing a school-based mentor and supporting class teacher who have received comprehensive training to ensure trainees are fully supported throughout their placements.
