About Us

Do you want to train to be a secondary school teacher?

Then the Ripley PGCE could be your route into teacher training. As a trainee teacher on the Ripley PGCE Programme you will spend a much greater proportion of time in school than you would on a traditional PGCE programme and the curriculum will be delivered by outstanding teachers who work in our partnership schools.

Our highly innovative curriculum is designed and delivered by our schools in order to train the type of teachers that schools want to employ. Our vision is to develop outstanding teaching and learning which is relevant to schools today and therefore linked to enhanced employment prospects. Our trainees are highly valued and well supported at all stages of their training by expert practitioners and outstanding mentors.

We have schools across the NW of England who are now recruiting trainees for the Ripley PGCE programme via UCAS Teacher Training.

About Our Training Programme

This is a 12 month programme which gives you PGCE and recommendation for QTS. The PGCE includes 60 credits at Master’s level.

As a trainee teacher on the Ripley PGCE Programme you will spend a much greater proportion of time in school than you would on a traditional PGCE programme and the curriculum will be delivered by school expert practitioners working across our partnership. This will facilitate much stronger links between theory and practice, enabling you to apply pedagogical knowledge in the classroom and reflect upon it more immediately.

Our highly innovative curriculum is designed and delivered by our schools in order to train the type of teachers that schools want to employ. Our vision is to develop outstanding teaching and learning which is relevant to schools today and therefore linked to enhanced employment prospects. We had a 100% employment rate for our trainees in 2013-14, who gained jobs across and beyond our partner schools.

All of our partner schools are involved in the recruitment and selection of trainees and have a real commitment to their training. Our trainees are highly valued and well supported at all stages of their training by expert practitioners and outstanding mentors. They greatly enjoy the exciting and innovative curriculum which we have designed, and make excellent progress in our schools.

Partner Schools

As the Lead School in the partnership, Ripley St Thomas has a successful track record in training teachers. They include academies, comprehensive schools and single sex schools, 11-16 and 11-18 settings. We also work closely with primary schools, special schools and pupil referral units to provide a broad experience for our trainees. The schools and academies that form the partnership are:
