PGCE Primary Education with QTS Qualification (60 Masters Credits) – Working with both Ladywood and Edge Hill you will work towards your qualification.
Ladywood School Direct offer 3 placements, in a variety of our 20 plus Partner schools, and can include both Mainstream and Special placements. Your three placements are tailored to your interests and strengths and have led to 98% employability, with 2 thirds of jobs obtained within our Alliance.
What the course will involve?
Ladywood Teaching School Alliance programme will be delivered by outstanding practitioners in a highly supportive and aspirational environment. The programme is aimed at developing your skills, knowledge and understanding into those required for teaching within the classrooms of tomorrow. It offers a uniquely holistic approach that allows young people to develop, each and every day.
The majority of training will be delivered by our Alliance Partners and Edge Hill University. The programme allows you to take risks and discover your potential in a safe environment. It allows you to reflect on pedagogy whilst at the same time seeing it in practice.
Entry Requirements – What you need ….
Before the programme commences, you must have:
School Experience – A commitment to, and understanding of, primary education, normally founded on at least 10 days of experience in primary classrooms in the two years prior to your application
Qualifications – GCSE’s at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification) in English Language and Mathematics. We also require GCSE at grade C (or equivalent qualification) in Combined Science / Physics / Chemistry / Biology and two additional National Curriculum subjects (as taught in Key Stages 1 and 2).
Degree – A first or second class Honours degree from a UK university; an A level in English, Maths, Science or a modern language, or evidence of significant coverage of one of these subjects within your first degree/higher degree. You may still apply if you do not fulfill this criteria, however if successful we may require you to complete a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course which are available in English, Maths and Science.
Personal and presentational qualities – including a good standard of written English.
Undertake Professional Skills Tests in Literacy and Numeracy prior to entry to this programme. Successful completion of the Professional Skills Tests will form part of the conditions of any offer of a place.
Ladywood’s strong commitment to support all teachers to support their journey to outstanding is enhances by continuing the professional development offer around succeeding and leading within the school led system.
This includes the facilitation of the Bolton Primary NQT programme, the North West Teaching School Council Recently Qualified Teaching programme, the NPQML and the Stepping into Headship Programme which supports aspiring Leaders of Education.

We are currently a team of three members of Ladywood School and Outreach Service.
As a team we have a vast wealth of knowledge within both Mainstream and specialist setting, with over 30 years teaching experience.
We are Quality assured facilitators, link tutors and have a key role in shaping the Educational landscape across Greater Manchester.
Susan Tailor: I am the Deputy Head of Ladywood School and Outreach Service with main responsibility of Teaching School Strategic Lead. My main passion/focus across school is Teaching & Learning.
Sarah Thorndyke: My current role within Ladywood School and Outreach Service is both a classroom teacher and the Teaching School Manager. My dual role enables me to facilitate from a hands on point of view.
Kath Kay: I am the Teaching School Administrator. I am here to answer any questions regarding the School Direct Route and in particular the Ladywood Programme.
