Hursthead Junior School
Hursthead Junior School Alliance is led by Hursthead Junior School, an outstanding three-form entry school in the south Manchester suburb of Cheadle Hulme. The school is committed to sharing best practice and leading the training of the teachers of the future.
Hursthead Junior School Alliance is a close-knit group of primary schools in the South Manchester area, who individually have substantial experience of working with trainees and a strong track record of producing high quality teachers.
Whilst each school has its own unique ethos, we all share a passion for developing teachers who are committed to delivering creative and fun teaching and learning opportunities.
We provide a comprehensive programme of learning and support, which equips trainee teachers with the skills and knowledge to become outstanding teachers.
The alliance offers School Direct places in partnership with the University of Manchester, who will validate the School Direct course with a PGCE qualification and QTS, giving you the opportunity to complete up to sixty credits towards a master’s degree.
We are committed to providing outstanding learning experiences for our children, and for our staff, therefore our trainees will need to be:
- A sensitive, caring professional
- A committed, hard-worker
- An approachable, open and honest colleague
- An enthusiastic team player, full of energy and a sense of humour
- A confident, engaging communicator
- A resilient learner, who keeps going in the face of new challenges.
Successful applicants to our alliance will become part of a family, which offers mentoring from highly experienced practitioners across the full range of primary phases and which will help you to learn and grow in confidence within stimulating environments.
Don’t just take our word for it! Here’s what Mike Kinlock, a former School Direct trainee with the Hursthead Junior School Alliance had to say: School Direct was the perfect training route for me because I wanted to learn on the job! I am so pleased I chose the Hursthead Junior School Alliance as, from Day One, I was straight into school life and had the opportunity to observe expert teachers – on a daily basis! I was supported incredibly well by my mentor and I really felt, throughout my time, that everyone on the staff wanted me to succeed. The whole course has been an incredible learning journey and I have been encouraged to take risks that have pushed me out of my comfort zone, but resulted in opening my eyes to new and different ways of teaching. At the end of my School Direct training with the Hursthead Junior School Alliance, I felt fully equipped for my NQT year and excited for my future career as a teacher.
Places are within our Teaching Alliance, and placements will be at one of the following schools:
